Recurrent acute otitis media (AOM) is a common illness of childhood and is encountered by all physicians who treat children. It can present with many diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. The objectives of treatment are to reduce the number of infections, decrease the severity and duration of the associated hearing loss, and reduce or eliminate potential complications of recurrent AOM.

Objectives of this Program

After completing the program, the participant will be able to:

  • Diagnose otitis media.
  • Describe drug therapy useful in the management of recurrent acute otitis media.
  • Recognize the risk factors responsible for the development of otitis media.
  • Recognize the potential complications of acute otitis media.
  • Know the criteria for referring patients for surgical management.
